Many people with disabilities can ride our standard fixed-route buses. But for those who can’t, we provide door-to-door paratransit service to people whose disabilities prevent them from using fixed route public transit. These vans vary their routes based on riders’ destinations, but must be scheduled in advance.
Though the Americans with Disabilities Act does not require a transit agency “to meet all the transportation needs of individuals with disabilities,” it does ensure that people with disabilities receive the same mass transportation opportunities everyone else receives.
Individuals interested in using Sonoma County Paratransit service must be registered and certified as ADA eligible before using the service. To apply for ADA paratransit service, call Sonoma County Transit at 707-585-7516 to request an application be mailed to you. Complete the application and return to Sonoma County Transit. Your eligibility request will be processed within 21 days of receipt of a complete application. If you have any questions, please contact Sonoma County Transit at 707-585-7516.
Paratransit operators are required by the ADA to service areas within ¾ of a mile of their respective, public fixed-route service. This includes service within the incorporated areas of Sonoma County, the Greater Santa Rosa Area, and between the County’s nine incorporated cities. In addition, service is provided within the following communities: Windsor, Sebastopol, Sonoma, Sonoma Valley (including Agua Caliente and Boyes Hot Springs), Cotati, Rohnert Park, Rio Nido, Guerneville, Monte Rio, Duncans Mills, and Occidental.

Paratransit tickets are valid for use on Sonoma County Paratransit only. Tickets may be used in lieu of paying a cash fare and having exact change. Paratransit tickets have no expiration date and may be used at any time towards the fare on any Sonoma County Paratransit trip.
If you’re traveling only within a single fare zone, a “First Zone Ticket” is required. Additional “zone” tickets are required for each additional fare zone travelled. For example, a trip from Geyserville to Santa Rosa is a 3-zone trip and would require one “First Zone Ticket,” one “Zone 2” ticket and one “Zone 3+” ticket. The same combination of tickets would then be required to make the return trip.
If you need assistance in determining the number of tickets needed for your trips, please call Sonoma County Transit at 707-576-7433, Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm.
First Zone Tickets (Blue) = $3.00 each
Zone 2 Tickets (Purple) = $1.20 each
Zone 3+ Tickets (Orange) = $1.80 each
Please note that the Yellow paratransit tickets have been discontinued. However, all yellow tickets already sold will be honored as both Zone 2 and Zone 3+ tickets.
Tickets can be purchased online using the form below or at Sonoma County Transit’s office, located at 355. W. Robles Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95407, Monday – Friday 8am-5pm.
Please be sure that all mobility devices are clean, safe and in good working condition before traveling and to notify the reservationist of any changes in your mobility device requirements upon booking your trip.
Passengers may travel with a service animal. This is defined as a guide dog, signal dog, or other animal trained to work or perform tasks for persons with disabilities.
Passengers can request to use the lift to board or disembark the vehicle and the driver will assist them. This includes passengers who walk, but still need to stand on the lift to move in and out of the vehicle.
Sometimes people who use paratransit realize the standard bus system serves them better for some trips. Travel training is available through Sonoma County Transit to assist physically challenged riders to become more independent by familiarizing them with using the fixed-route bus service. This service is also helpful to persons who may be using Sonoma County Transit for the first time. Call Sonoma County Transit at 707-585-7516 for more information.
Sonoma County Paratransit service will be provided to ADA-eligible persons who are visiting from outside the Sonoma County Transit service area. Visitors will be required to provide proof of eligibility to schedule service during their visit. Call Sonoma County Transit at 707-585-7516 for more information.
